The greatest ever midfielder to wear the Hoops? Certainly, many ex-team-mates and Celtic fans would agree with that description of the driving force behind the Lisbon Lions.
At his best, he was simply indispensable for Jock Stein – it was often said when Murdoch played, Celtic played. A pin-point passer and genius with the ball at his feet, Bobby was inspirational as Celtic won the 1967 European Cup.
That medal embroidered his impressive domestic haul of eight league titles, five Scottish Cups and six League Cups with Celtic. Scotland’s Player of the Year in 1969, Bobby would have graced any side in world football. He sadly passed away in May 2001.
